Winter 2009 began with color mixing and circle paintings. Finally, at the end of the winter session the circle mural is up! It really brightens the room.

Murals are definitely my favorite project and this week was the 4, 5 and 6ers first one ever! Our theme is sea and sky and I am LOVIN' how it is coming out. The plan after this first stage of background is to collage sea life, birds etc. onto the background. The only thing is I think it's beautiful now! We had 2 kids who wanted to make the sun so we decided to have 2 suns which then turned into each kid wanting to make a sun and thinking it was hilarious to have so many suns. Quite subversive artists aren't they?

Here it is! The first mural of the session. Although it looks like Mary is doing all the work herself, Marisa, Chloe, Izzy, Bridin and Maya all contributed. I guess the boys will make their own (vampire bats and skeletons were being discussed as subject matter - Maya interjecting that she likes skeletons too - thank you Maya, we don't want to stereotype!).

My concept was to make a sky background for our birds (who are supposed to be carrying an olive branch - a flock of peace doves - I love it! But I don't know if that is going to happen - I may have to do the idea myself), and velcro them to the mural. They are still planning to velcro the birds (along with eggs, nests and mushrooms) "the birds need a place to live!" insist the kids.

The kids have taken the birds into consideration from the look of the trees. I love how this has altered  their design. Very interesting trees!
