We now have some room to spread out and do some large projects. Most of the kids worked on the floor but Ethan, John and Mikey took over some tables. It's a large room but the 13 children fill it to capacity - to my surprise, being so used to working with 8 kids at my dining room table in a very small space.
I envisioned the self portraits to be big 2 x 3 feet all-face and hung all around the room. I was thinking of Georgia O'Keefe's giant close ups of flowers - giant kid's faces! However the kids are going in a different direction (which I always think is fine). I think I'll introduce the scale idea for another project - maybe we'll do giant bugs or germs or something. Bet I could find a lot of reference on germ art, huh?
Ethan is seen here doing his actual self portrait (even gave him a mirror) and in typical Ethan style he is doing his own thing (go Ethan!).
The portrait seen at the bottom is by Mikey P. I found it so interesting that instead of making the usual kid round face he made his face as a skeleton then painted the skin and hair - that is fascinating to me - he is an original thinker, loves science and in this case oh so logical!
